The Rotary Club of Onitsha Metropolis has installed Rtn. Ezuma Smart Chinedu as its 25th President, marking its Silver Jubilee with a renewed commitment to humanitarian service and community development.
The ceremony attracted Rotarians, traditional rulers, business leaders, community stakeholders and well-wishers from across Nigeria.
Delivering the keynote address, Immediate Past President of the club and former Group Chief Executive Officer of Transcorp Plc, Valentine Ozigbo, urged leaders to embrace visionary leadership, integrity and selfless service in advancing sustainable development.
Special Guest of Honour, Bishop Dr. E. C. Obiorah, Chairman of Emos Best Industries Limited, praised the club’s humanitarian efforts and encouraged members to sustain interventions in education, healthcare and community empowerment.
Representing the District Governor, Assistant Governor Rtn. Obiaku Ijeoma Juliet urged members to remain committed to Rotary’s principle of “Service Above Self.”
In his acceptance speech, the new President pledged to strengthen partnerships and implement impactful projects that would improve lives during the 2026–2027 Rotary year.
The event also featured the inauguration of the new Board of Directors, induction of members, presentation of awards, unveiling of community service initiatives and a free medical outreach in partnership with Wecare Nursing Service, offering blood pressure and blood sugar checks, health counselling and preventive health education.
Guests were also entertained with traditional performances by the Arondizuogu Patriotic Union and Arondizuogu Youth Association Worldwide, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the new president’s hometown.
