The President of the Cooperative Federation of Anambra State (COFAS), Amb. Dr. Ogochukwu Soludo, has unveiled a three-year strategic roadmap aimed at repositioning cooperative societies as key drivers of economic growth, job creation and community development across the state.

Speaking at the 2026 International Cooperative Day celebration held at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka, Soludo described the revival of COFAS after 33 years as a major milestone that would strengthen cooperative societies and improve members’ welfare.

He said the federation’s agenda would focus on expanding access to affordable finance, strengthening savings culture, supporting small businesses, promoting youth and women entrepreneurship, embracing digital innovation and creating stronger market opportunities for cooperative members.

Soludo identified major challenges facing cooperatives, including weak governance, inadequate funding, poor record management, low digital literacy and limited market access. He stressed that addressing these issues would enable cooperatives to contribute more effectively to the state’s economy.

He also urged the Anambra State Government to establish a Cooperative Development Fund and fully integrate cooperatives into the state’s economic planning, assuring members that COFAS would be guided by transparency, accountability and measurable results.
