The atmosphere was filled with joy, gratitude and spiritual reflection June 21 as fathers at Enthronement Grace Outreach International, Nnewi, joined Christians across the world to celebrate Fathering Sunday, a day dedicated to honouring the priceless role of fathers in the family and society.
The celebration reached a memorable climax when the founder of the ministry, Venerable Dr. Stanley Nzube Awuzie (JP), delivered a powerful message challenging fathers to embrace the divine qualities and responsibilities expected of every Christian father.
Speaking during the special church service, Ven. Awuzie reminded fathers that fatherhood is not merely a biological privilege but a sacred calling from God that demands commitment, sacrifice, wisdom and spiritual leadership.
According to him, a good Christian father must be a man of integrity whose life reflects the teachings of Christ. He explained that fathers must lead by example, demonstrating honesty, humility, discipline, patience and unwavering faith in God.
“A father must be a model worthy of emulation. Children learn more from what they see than from what they hear.
“Fathers must, therefore, live lives that point their families to Christ, “he said.
The cleric further outlined the responsibilities of every Christian father, emphasizing that fathers are called to be spiritual leaders in their homes. He urged them to cultivate family prayer, teach biblical values and ensure that their households remain rooted in the fear of God.
He noted that beyond providing food, shelter and education, fathers have the responsibility of nurturing the emotional, moral and spiritual well-being of their children.
Ven. Awuzie also encouraged fathers to be protectors of their families, providers who work diligently and mentors who guide their children toward productive and Godly lives.
He urged them to remain present in the lives of their children, offering counsel, encouragement and correction when necessary.
The Anglican priest emphasized that fathers should demonstrate love toward their wives and children, explaining that a peaceful and united home provides the foundation for raising responsible citizens who will positively impact society.
As the congregation reflected on the message, mothers took turns celebrating their husbands with songs of praise and appreciation, acknowledging their sacrifices, leadership and commitment to family life.
The colourful display of affection and gratitude added warmth to the celebration, highlighting the importance of mutual support and respect within Christian homes.
The fathers, in turn, expressed their appreciation to God by hosting a feast for the entire congregation after the service, creating an atmosphere of fellowship, unity and thanksgiving.
In his concluding admonition, Ven. Awuzie charged the entire congregation to remain steadfast in righteousness and to keep their eyes fixed on Jesus Christ regardless of life’s challenges.
He reminded worshippers that true success and fulfilment can only be found in a life surrendered to God.
“Let us remain on the path of righteousness, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. When Christ remains our focus, our families, churches and society will become better,” he urged.
The Fathering Sunday celebration served not only as a tribute to fathers but also as a timely reminder that Godly fatherhood remains one of the strongest pillars for building stable families, vibrant churches and a morally sound society.
As the event came to a close amid laughter, fellowship and thanksgiving, one message resonated clearly throughout the congregation: a good Christian father is not measured merely by what he provides, but by the Godly legacies.
