The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has adopted a series of internal reforms aimed at strengthening party discipline, accountability and long-term institutional stability following resolutions reached at its second National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the NDC said the measures were part of ongoing efforts to entrench party supremacy and build a strong political institution.

The NEC reaffirmed that all programmes, policies and appointments by governments elected on the party’s platform, excluding personal staff appointments, must be made in consultation with party structures.

According to the party, elected officials are expected to align their actions with collective party decisions, stressing that party supremacy remains central to its ideology and operations.

As part of the resolutions, the NEC directed that all affiliated groups and non-governmental organisations operating under the party’s influence must function strictly under party guidance and not independently of its structures.

The party also approved plans to develop a comprehensive Code of Conduct for party officials and candidates. A committee headed by the National Legal Adviser has been mandated to draft the framework and implementation guidelines.

In a move to promote unity within the party, the NEC approved the establishment of a National Reconciliation Committee to address grievances among members and strengthen internal cohesion.

The party further emphasized its commitment to building an enduring institution rather than a personality-driven political movement, urging members to remain focused on its long-term vision.

On financial accountability, the NEC resolved that party funds must be managed strictly for official purposes, with transparency made mandatory in all financial transactions involving party officials.

It also directed that all campaign-related funds be fully declared and processed through designated party accounts at the local government, state, zonal and national levels.

The NDC said the reforms were designed to enhance transparency, strengthen internal unity and position the party for future political engagements.
