Trump reportedly clashes with Netanyahu over Lebanon strikes amid Iran talks

By Agency Report

United States President Donald Trump reportedly expressed anger during a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over Israeli military actions in Lebanon, amid concerns that the escalating conflict could undermine ongoing diplomatic efforts with Iran.

Concern Over Iran Negotiations

According to a report, citing sources familiar with the conversation, Trump strongly criticized Israel’s military operations and warned that further escalation could jeopardize negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

The report said Trump was particularly concerned that Israeli strikes in Lebanon could derail efforts by the United States to secure progress in talks with Iran, which have remained a key focus of his administration’s Middle East policy.

Sources told Axios that the conversation between the two leaders became tense, with Trump urging Netanyahu to avoid actions that could inflame regional tensions and complicate diplomatic initiatives.

Lebanon Strikes Raise Regional Tensions

The disagreement reportedly followed Israeli military operations targeting Hezbollah positions in Lebanon.

The strikes heightened fears of a broader regional conflict involving Iran-backed groups.

Following the call, Israel was said to have reconsidered plans for a wider military operation in Beirut.

However, Netanyahu reportedly maintained that Israel reserves the right to respond to security threats and continue operations against Hezbollah when necessary.

Growing Differences Between Allies

The development underscores growing differences between Washington and Jerusalem over how to address security challenges in the region while preserving diplomatic channels with Iran.

Neither the White House nor the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office immediately provided detailed public comments on the reported exchange.

The United States has been seeking to advance negotiations with Iran while simultaneously supporting Israel’s security concerns, a balancing act that has become increasingly difficult amid renewed tensions across the Middle East.
