Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly and House of Representatives hopeful, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Pius Okoye, has raised alarm over an alleged plot by political opponents and “jobbers” to overturn his victory in the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) primary election for Awka North/Awka South Federal Constituency.

Okoye, who secured a total of 4,465 votes, was declared winner of the primary by the Returning Officer, Elizabeth Nwokeocha, after defeating other aspirants by a wide margin.

Speaking after the exercise, the Deputy Speaker alleged that despite his official declaration as winner, some disgruntled elements were allegedly making moves to reconduct elections in three wards within the constituency in a bid to scuttle his victory.

He insisted that the process was transparent and credible, adding that he possesses video evidence capturing his formal declaration by the Returning Officer.

According to him, the overwhelming support he received from party faithful was a clear indication that the people had endorsed his aspiration to represent Awka North and Awka South Federal Constituency at the Green Chamber.

Meanwhile, a video clip circulating online showed the Returning Officer, Elizabeth Nwokeocha, officially declaring Okoye winner of the exercise.

“The House of Representatives primary election of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), I, Elizabeth Nwokeocha, hereby declare that having satisfied all the requirements and considering all the results collated from the field by the collation officer, Hon. Okoye Chukwuma Pius, having scored a total of 4,465 votes, is hereby declared winner of this primary election,” she said.
