ATASP-1 hands over rehabilitated irrigation facility to AIRBDA

The Federal Government has handed over the rehabilitated Lower Anambra Irrigation Project (LAIP) Water Pumping Station in Ifite-Ogwari, Ayamelum Local Government Area of Anambra State to the Anambra-Imo River Basin Development Authority (AIRBDA).


The project, executed under the Agricultural Transformation Agenda Support Programme Phase One (ATASP-1), is aimed at boosting irrigation farming and food production in the area.


Representing the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, ATASP-1 National Programme Coordinator, Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Arabi, said over 2,000 hectares of farmland had been rehabilitated to support year-round farming.


Zonal Coordinator, Dr. Romanus Egba, said the project included restoration of the pumping station and irrigation canals, while AIRBDA Chairman, Senator Emma Obiajulu Anosike, pledged proper maintenance of the facility.
