The Biafra Internal Government (BIG) by the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has marked the 26th anniversary of the re-declaration of Biafra, renewing its call for self-determination and peaceful dialogue on the future of Nigeria.
In an address presented by the 7th Prime Minister of the group, Elder Calistus Eze, and made available to journalists through its Spokesman, Comrade Ijeomah Anthony, the organization reflected on the May 22, 2000 re-declaration of Biafra led by Chief Ralph Uwazuruike in Aba, Abia State.
Eze described the anniversary as a significant moment in the history of the movement, noting that it represented a renewed pursuit of self-determination through non-violence, discipline, and peaceful engagement.
He commended members and supporters of the movement for sustaining the struggle over the years and urged continued commitment to peaceful principles and lawful advocacy.
The group also extended congratulations to the Republic of Somaliland on its recent independence anniversary celebration, describing the territory’s political development and democratic institutions as an example of resilience and peaceful self-governance.
According to the statement, BIG may consider discussions on possible areas of cooperation with Somaliland during its future executive meetings.
Eze further appealed to the international community, including the United Nations, African Union, European Union, and the United States, to encourage peaceful dialogue and constitutional reforms aimed at addressing Nigeria’s political and regional challenges.
He expressed the need for non-violent and democratic approaches in resolving issues relating to self-determination and national unity.
The statement reaffirmed the group’s belief in peaceful advocacy and dialogue as pathways toward achieving its objectives.
