Pope Leo XIV has called on religious leaders and world governments to work together in promoting peace, justice, and mutual respect, while warning against the misuse of God’s name for political, military, or economic purposes.

The Pope made the remarks during a meeting with representatives of Muslim communities in Senegal and leaders of the Catholic Church in the country.

He described the gathering as a strong symbol of friendship and peaceful coexistence among different religious groups.

Pope Leo XIV praised Senegal for its long-standing culture of religious tolerance, saying the country continues to serve as a model of unity between Christians, Muslims, and people of other faiths.

He, however, expressed concern over ongoing conflicts, violent extremism, humanitarian crises, and growing social challenges affecting parts of Africa.

According to him, hate speech, migration pressures, and the decline of moral values among young people are increasing threats to peace and stability.

The Pontiff stressed the importance of interreligious dialogue and cooperation in resolving tensions and building lasting peace. He urged religious leaders to continue promoting reconciliation, respect, and understanding among communities.

Pope Leo XIV also called for the protection of minorities facing discrimination or persecution, insisting that every human being possesses dignity and deserves respect regardless of religion or ethnic background.

He concluded by encouraging Christians and Muslims to continue working together for the good of humanity, peace, and social harmony across the world.
