Traders at Ogbaru Main Market have appealed to Igbo billionaire Arthur Eze to fulfil his 2025 promise to donate a modern fire-fighting truck to the market.
The traders made the appeal while commending ongoing reconstruction efforts led by market chairman, Chief Ndubuisi Ochiogu, which have improved roofing, ventilation, spacing, and network accessibility.
Chairman of line chairmen, Chinyereugo Nwamaduka, said the request became necessary to strengthen safety measures, noting that a fire truck would complement newly installed fire extinguishers across the market.
Market secretary, Stanley Ahamefuna, expressed optimism that Arthur Eze would honour the pledge, adding that traders have waited patiently for the donation.
Other stakeholders, including Obiora Ginikanwa and Chigbogu Nwinya, described the appeal as a reminder rather than pressure, urging the billionaire to expedite the process.
Assistant secretary and former caretaker chairman, Bokuno Agu, attributed the delay to possible bureaucratic bottlenecks but expressed confidence that the donation would eventually be delivered.
