A United States-based School Support Administrator, Dr Chinedu Ikeanyi, has described the outcome of the recently concluded Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly Union (EBU-Nigeria) election as a major turning point for the community.
The town union election, held on December 29, 2025, adopted an open secret ballot system and produced Chief Pius Nwankwo as President-General, alongside 17 other executive members.
In a statement, Ikeanyi, a Prince of Enugwu-Agidi and Ozo Nwawelugo, said the election marked the end of what he described as a difficult period in the town’s recent history.
According to him, the past three years were characterised by deep divisions, tension, and a lack of visible progress in the community, which left many indigenes worried about the direction of the town.
“During this period, our town experienced serious internal challenges that strained relationships and weakened the sense of unity that once defined Enugwu-Agidi,” he said.
He noted that several residents allegedly experienced harassment, disputes, and prolonged conflicts, while some community leaders and indigenes were drawn into prolonged disagreements that affected social harmony.
Ikeanyi further said that the atmosphere of mistrust and fear negatively impacted traditional institutions and community leadership, creating widespread anxiety among residents at home and in the diaspora.
He expressed the view that the December 29, 2025 election brought renewed hope, describing it as a moment of collective decision by the people to chart a new course anchored on peace, unity, and development.
“In spite of the challenges, the election has given Enugwu-Agidi an opportunity to heal, rebuild trust, and move forward as one people,” he said.
Ikeanyi commended the newly elected President-General, Chief Pius Nwankwo, and members of the executive for accepting the responsibility to lead at what he described as a critical time, praying for divine guidance, wisdom, and protection for them throughout their tenure.
He also praised the Electoral Committee, chaired by Engr. Nnoli Martin Okoye, for what he described as a transparent and credible process. He acknowledged the roles played by the Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. TonyCollins Nwabunwanne; the member representing Njikoka Constituency at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Chidiebele Ibemeka; and the Chairman of Njikoka Local Government Area, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba.
The Prince reserved special commendation for Enugwu-Agidi indigenes at home and in the diaspora who returned with their families from different parts of the world to participate in the election.
“Your sacrifices, commitment, and belief in the future of Enugwu-Agidi have shown that our people remain deeply invested in the destiny of this town,” he said.
Ikeanyi expressed optimism that the new EBU-Nigeria leadership would prioritise reconciliation, inclusiveness, and sustainable development in order to restore confidence and unity within the community.
