The outgoing Community Women Leader and President-General of Ojoto Akanasato Women (Inyom Ojoto), Hon. Mrs Anthonia Okonkwo, has called for peace, unity and forgiveness among women in Ojoto community, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Okonkwo made the call during the 2026 August Women’s Meeting, where she urged members to support one another and preserve the bonds of love and unity in the community.
She also appealed to anyone she may have offended in the course of her duties to forgive her, saying she was equally ready to forgive those who had offended her.
Presenting her farewell address, Okonkwo said her administration inherited less than N25,000 in 2022 but, through God’s help, recorded several achievements and left funds in the association’s coffers.
She said the administration provided financial empowerment to 12 indigent women drawn from the 12 villages that make up Ojoto Akanasato to enable them start small businesses.
Other achievements, according to her, included assisting sick and bedridden members with funds for hospital bills, food and drugs, producing an official constitution for the association, and installing two industrial cassava processing machines for women in Ojoto Uno and Ojoto Oboofia.
Okonkwo also said the association did not miss its entitlements and development opportunities from the local government and Awka Capital Territory, adding that it was not indebted ahead of the August 22, 2026 handover.
She urged members to support the incoming Community Women Leader, Engr. Dr. Francisca Nwafulugo, assuring that the outgoing leadership would remain available to offer guidance when necessary.
Nwafulugo, the incoming President-General, called for prayers, unity and selfless service, promising an inclusive, transparent and robust administration.
She said the new leadership would focus on empowering more women and youths while working collectively to make Ojoto a desirable community.
The Mayor of Idemili South, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi, cautioned mothers against immoral and lazy lifestyles, urging them to discourage their children from pursuing quick wealth through questionable means.
She encouraged women and youths to embrace skills acquisition and other legitimate means of livelihood.
The Women Development Officer, Idemili South LGA, Lady Oby Nwosu, and Head of the Social Welfare Unit, Ms Oby Ugwumba, urged women to report cases of gender-based violence, child molestation and abuse of children’s rights.
Representing the traditional ruler of Ojoto, Igwe Gerald Mbamalu, High Chief Romanus Anyisia urged the women to shun hatred, strife, unhealthy comparisons and actions capable of destroying marriages.
He also encouraged parents to raise their children in the fear of God and promote education, skills acquisition and legitimate businesses.
The Rector of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr Chioma Awuzie, represented by her aide, Demcute Nnoruka, also urged the women to embrace peace and unity and become ambassadors of peace in their community.
