President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed sorrow over the killing of a teacher and the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, assuring families that efforts are underway to secure the victims’ release.

Condolences to Victims’ Families

In a statement on Monday, the President sympathised with residents of Esiele and Yawota communities, describing the attack as a painful tragedy. He also paid tribute to Michael Oyedokun, who was reportedly beheaded during the incident, assuring his family that the nation would not forget his sacrifice.

Rescue Efforts Ongoing

Tinubu said security agencies are conducting coordinated, intelligence-driven operations to rescue the abducted pupils and teachers, stressing that all lawful measures would be deployed until they regain freedom.

Security Measures Strengthened

Following the May 15, 2026 abduction, the Federal Government dispatched a delegation led by Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, the Defence Minister and Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun to assess the situation.

The President also reaffirmed plans to deploy a specialised rescue unit and 1,000 forest guards in partnership with the Oyo State Government to strengthen surveillance and curb criminal activities.

He added that a proposal for a military base in the area is under urgent consideration.

The incident has renewed concerns over school safety and rural insecurity, with authorities insisting that efforts remain focused on rescuing the victims and restoring public confidence.
