Soludo’s Aide blasts Obi over fresh call for Kanu’s release

…Says former Governor’s remarks undermine Nigerian, Finnish judiciaries

The Special Adviser on Media to Anambra State Governor, Ejimofor Opara, has criticized Peter Obi over his renewed call for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, describing the remarks as an attack on the integrity of the judiciary.

Obi had reportedly reiterated his position during an interaction with Nigerians in Washington, D.C., where he maintained that there was no justification for Kanu’s continued incarceration.

Responding, Opara argued that the former Anambra Governor’s comments disregarded the judicial processes that led to Kanu’s conviction and sentencing.

He also referenced the conviction of Simon Ekpa in Finland, saying Obi’s remarks indirectly questioned the credibility of both Nigerian and Finnish courts.

Opara noted that Obi himself benefited from judicial intervention when courts restored his governorship mandate in Anambra State, saying that he should therefore be among those defending the sanctity of the judiciary.

The PUNCH reports that Soludo’s Aide further accused Obi of making politically motivated statements capable of eroding public confidence in democratic institutions.

Kanu is currently serving a life sentence after a Federal High Court in Abuja convicted him in November 2025 on terrorism-related charges.

He has since appealed the judgment and is seeking to overturn both his conviction and sentence.
