Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, on Sunday launched statewide political mobilisation for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, rallying leaders and supporters of four major political parties behind the President.
The mobilisation commenced with a strategic meeting of leaders of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Accord Party at the International Convention Centre, Awka.
The meeting attracted more than 4,000 party faithful and stakeholders under the Anambra State Coalition for President Tinubu’s re-election. It also brought together political candidates, critical stakeholders and public servants of Anambra extraction serving at different levels.
Prominent APC leaders in the state, including Sir Paul Chukwuma and Dr Chris Ngige, were absent but reportedly communicated their support for the initiative to Governor Soludo.
Speaking at the meeting, APC State Chairman, Senator Emma Anosike, thanked the leaders of the participating political parties and commended Governor Soludo for his leadership and developmental achievements in Anambra State.
In his address, Soludo described the gathering as a coalition for progress, prosperity and the protection of Nigeria’s future, insisting that the primary objective was to secure President Tinubu’s re-election.
“I want to deeply appreciate everyone here,” the governor said, describing the alliance as a coalition not only to secure Nigeria’s future but also that of Anambra State.
Addressing the political stakes ahead of the 2027 presidential election, Soludo characterised the contest as a battle between emotion and reason, expressing confidence that reason would ultimately prevail.
“This is a battle between emotion and reason. But in the end, reason will triumph. Our sole purpose here is the re-election of President Bola Tinubu. This meeting is for him. Why we are here is that we are focusing on the re-election of President Tinubu,” he declared.
The governor also defended APGA’s decision to adopt President Tinubu as its presidential candidate, suggesting a strong ideological and political affinity between the two parties.
“If a paternity test were to be conducted on APC, APGA’s DNA will rise strongly in APC,” Soludo said.
He warned that political defeat carried serious consequences, stressing that electoral success depended on strategic planning and grassroots mobilisation.
“Losing has consequences. There is no prize for second position in politics. Only those who plan control the future,” he said.
On his relationship with former Anambra governor and NDC presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, Soludo acknowledged their personal friendship but maintained that they had different political positions.
“Our brother is my friend. We are quite close. But we differ on politics,” he stated.
Charging members of the coalition to remain committed despite possible criticism and opposition, Soludo warned that those advocating support for Tinubu could face attacks and verbal abuses.
“They will abuse you, they will attack you, but keep on,” he urged.
He, however, placed particular emphasis on grassroots mobilisation and electoral performance, insisting that the coalition’s commitment would ultimately be measured by results at polling units.
“Everybody is welcome, but our polling unit result will speak to our commitment,” the governor declared.
Earlier, APGA National Chairman, Sly Ezeokenwa, described APGA as the most organised political party in Nigeria and commended Soludo for providing leadership to the coalition.
“Thank you for providing leadership. All of us here are united under your leadership. We are solidly behind you. Give us the assignment, we will deliver,” Ezeokenwa assured.
Also speaking, Senator Uche Ekwunife commended Soludo for initiating the coalition and taking what she described as a bold political position ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Other speakers equally expressed support for the governor’s initiative and pledged commitment to the coalition’s objective of securing Tinubu’s re-election.
