The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed that the police officer allegedly linked to the tragic incident that led to the death of a three-month-old baby in Okija has been identified and taken into custody.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command disclosed that a full-scale investigation has commenced to unravel the circumstances surrounding the heartbreaking incident and ensure justice is served.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, expressed deep sadness over the development and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
According to the statement, the officer involved is currently undergoing interrogation alongside other administrative and disciplinary procedures in line with the regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Command reassured members of the public of its commitment to transparency, professionalism, and accountability throughout the investigation process.
Police authorities also urged residents to remain calm and avoid actions capable of escalating tension, emphasizing that anyone found culpable would not be shielded from justice.
The Command added that further updates on the outcome of the investigation would be communicated to the public in due course.
