Obafemi Awolowo University has launched the OAU eCampus, a fully online platform aimed at extending the institution’s accredited academic programmes to learners across Nigeria, West Africa and the diaspora.
The initiative followed the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between the university and Astria Learning on May 13, 2026.
According to the university, the OAU eCampus is designed to expand access to quality education beyond the Ile-Ife campus while maintaining the institution’s academic standards.
The university stated that all programmes offered through the eCampus would remain accredited OAU degrees, taught by OAU lecturers and governed by the institution’s existing academic policies.
Vice Chancellor of the university, Adebayo Simeon Bamire, described the partnership as part of the university’s strategic plan to expand quality education beyond Nigeria.
He said the initiative would provide an affordable and competitive e-learning experience for students across West Africa and beyond.
Chief Executive Officer of Astria Learning, Jeff Bordes, said the platform would make OAU education accessible to working professionals, mid-career managers and Nigerians in the diaspora who may not be able to relocate to Ile-Ife for studies.
The digital campus will run on Astria Learning’s technology infrastructure, including an AI-enabled learning management system, a 24-hour academic help desk and a digital library containing over 170,000 academic resources with offline access functionality.
The university also disclosed that online assessments would be conducted through identity-verified proctoring to ensure the integrity of its academic credentials.
The institution said the eCampus would offer undergraduate, postgraduate and professional programmes through flexible online learning pathways while increasing enrolment capacity without large-scale physical infrastructure expansion.
The first cohort of students under the OAU eCampus model is expected to commence studies in January 2027.
