The Child Protection Network (CPN), Anambra State Chapter, has called for a prompt, transparent and impartial investigation into the alleged abuse and maltreatment of a minor, Chiziterem Franklin Ozuligbo, reportedly living as a domestic help under the care of an adult guardian.
State Coordinator of the network, Mrs. Anekwe Eucharia, made the demand in a statement on Monday, describing the circumstances surrounding the case as disturbing and a serious threat to child safety and welfare.
She said the allegations, which have sparked widespread public concern following the circulation of images and reports on social media, underscore the urgent need for stronger child protection mechanisms.
CPN Condemns Abuse
According to the statement, the organization strongly condemns all forms of violence, exploitation, neglect and abuse against children, stressing that every child deserves protection, dignity, education, healthcare and a nurturing environment.
“We have received with profound concern reports and images circulating in the public domain regarding the alleged abuse and maltreatment of a minor, Chiziterem Franklin Ozuligbo, who was reportedly living as a domestic help under the care of an adult guardian,” the statement read.
“The circumstances surrounding this case, as presently reported, are deeply disturbing and raise serious concerns about the safety, protection and welfare of children placed in the care of others.”
Demand for Thorough Investigation
While acknowledging the need for due process, CPN said the allegations were grave and required urgent intervention by relevant authorities.
The group urged law enforcement agencies, child protection institutions and government authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that anyone found culpable faces the full weight of the law.
“Where evidence establishes wrongdoing, those responsible should be held accountable in accordance with the provisions of the law,” Anekwe said.
Call for Collective Action
The network also appealed to community leaders, traditional rulers, civil society organisations, faith-based groups and concerned citizens to support efforts aimed at protecting vulnerable children.
According to the group, safeguarding children’s rights requires collective vigilance, collaboration and swift action whenever abuse is suspected.
Beyond seeking justice, the organisation stressed the need for comprehensive medical treatment, psychosocial support, rehabilitation and reintegration services for the victim to aid his recovery and restore his dignity.
‘No Child Should Suffer Abuse Without Consequence’
CPN described the incident as a reminder of the persistent challenge of child abuse in society, calling for increased public awareness, improved reporting systems and stronger commitment to child protection at all levels.
Reaffirming its commitment to advocating for child rights, the network pledged solidarity with Chiziterem and other victims of abuse, neglect and exploitation.
“Justice for Chiziterem is not merely about addressing one case; it is about reinforcing society’s collective resolve that no child should suffer abuse without consequence,” Anekwe added.
