Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has congratulated former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, on his 85th birthday, describing him as a visionary statesman and the “Father of Abia State.”
Otti, in a statement issued on Monday by his spokesman, Njoku Ukoha, said Babangida’s administration made a historic contribution to the people of the state by creating Abia State on August 27, 1991.
The governor said the creation of Abia 35 years ago was a landmark decision that gave birth to a state which has continued to contribute significantly to Nigeria’s development.
“On behalf of the Government and good people of Abia State, I heartily congratulate President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida on attaining this remarkable age of 85,” Otti said.
He expressed appreciation to the former military president for the decision that led to the creation of Abia, noting that the state has since grown into an important component of Nigeria.
The governor also disclosed that the Abia State Executive Council, during its weekly meeting, formally congratulated Babangida on the milestone.
According to Otti, the council acknowledged Babangida as the “Father of Abia State” and expressed gratitude to God for preserving his life and sustaining him in good health.
He prayed that God would continue to grant the former military leader wisdom, strength and peace, while blessing him with more years of service to the nation.
Babangida, who ruled Nigeria as Military President from 1985 until his resignation in 1993, is being celebrated by political leaders and Nigerians as he clocks 85.
