Hundreds of Nnewi residents have been responding in their numbers to comply with the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise that kicked off a couple of days ago in Anambra State.

To ensure that the exercise is hitch-free in the industrial community, the State Commissioner for Industry, Hon Christian Udechukwu with some stakeholders in Nnewi have been going round some designated polling units to encourage participants and the electoral officers.

At the palace of Obi George Onyekaba, the Obi of Nnewichi Commissioner Udechukwu told the electoral officers to ensure all those who turned out were attended to without unnecessary delays.

The Commissioner who is an Nnewi indigene said they should report any challenge they have for them to be assisted to have smooth execution of their assignments in the exercise that would last for ten days.

“It will be wrong to skip any eligible voter in the exercise for any reason whatsoever. Nobody should be disenfranchised. If there is any challenge, you should let us know so that we can assist you, “he said.

In his response, the officer in charge of the palace polling unit for the exercise, Mr Ogbu Johnmartin said they were following the guidelines but mentioned no challenge in particular.

He, however, disclosed that his team discharged their duties without discrimination except that pregnant women, the elderly and community leaders were given priority attention. He assured that nobody would be left out.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is conducting a Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise. This initiative allows eligible citizens to register as voters, update their information, and obtain or replace their permanent voter cards. The exercise aims to ensure inclusive participation in future elections, enabling citizens who have turned 18 or previously did not register to enroll as voters.

INEC officials, including Resident Electoral Commissioners, Electoral Officers, and Registration Area Officers, oversee the registration process. The exercise is crucial for strengthening democracy and allowing citizens to have their voices heard in future elections.

The Commissioner moved round in the company of Nnewi North Local Government Area Chairman, Hon Echezona Anazodo, among others.
