The Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA) provided free health services during the May Day rally in Awka, including HIV testing, hepatitis and tuberculosis screening, blood sugar checks, and mobile X-rays.

Executive Secretary, Dr. Nkem Okeke, said over 2,800 test kits were deployed at the event held at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, with more available if needed.

The agency also distributed condoms, lubricants, and HIV self-testing kits, alongside education on proper use.

Okeke expressed concern over the state’s HIV prevalence rate of 2.4 percent, higher than the national average of 2.1 percent, stressing the need for intensified efforts to meet the 2030 zero-infection target.

He noted strong participation by workers, reflecting growing awareness and reduced stigma, and said the initiative would be sustained.
