The Anambra State Chapter of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) has appointed the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Esther Chinyere Onyekesi, as a Very Senior Ambassador of the campaign.
The appointment, which took place on Friday, August 7, 2026, formed part of the ongoing efforts by the Anambra State Police Command to strengthen strategic partnerships with critical stakeholders in the fight against cultism, substance abuse, bullying, cybercrime and other social vices affecting children, teenagers and youths.
The POCACOV team, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Francisca Egbunike, described the partnership with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare as critical to promoting safer communities and protecting vulnerable members of society.
Egbunike highlighted the important role of the ministry in family and community development, particularly in advocacy, counselling, youth empowerment, protection of vulnerable persons and early intervention against behaviours that could expose young people to criminality and other harmful influences.
Receiving the recognition, Commissioner Onyekesi appreciated POCACOV for the initiative and expressed the ministry’s readiness to sustain and deepen its partnership with the Nigeria Police Force through the campaign.
She reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting programmes aimed at preventing cultism, substance abuse, bullying, cybercrime and other social vices among teenagers and youths across the state.
The partnership is expected to further strengthen collaboration between the police and the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare in tackling social challenges affecting young people and promoting responsible behaviour within families and communities.
The Anambra State Police Command, through POCACOV, called on parents, traditional rulers, religious leaders, community leaders, schools, youth organisations, civil society groups and other stakeholders to join hands with the police in building a safer, more responsible and crime-free society.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Awka.
