The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Youth Leader in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Hon. Augustine Ejibendu, has unveiled a comprehensive governance blueprint titled “My Offer to Serve”, outlining his priorities if elected Mayor in the forthcoming local government elections.
Speaking during an interview with journalists in Awka, Hon. Ejibendu said his vision for Idemili South is firmly anchored on sustainable growth, people-centered development, and inclusive governance.
He identified key focus areas to include infrastructure development, healthcare delivery, job creation, education, youth and women empowerment, agriculture, security, and social welfare.
According to him, his administration would revamp skills acquisition programmes by introducing lucrative, market-driven vocational skills aimed at making young people self-reliant and economically productive.
He also plans to provide microfinance support for small-scale entrepreneurs and artisans, while implementing a robust agricultural programme to boost food production, enhance food security, and create employment opportunities for residents.
Sources close to the aspirant disclosed that Ejibendu intends to work closely with community leaders, traditional rulers, town unions, and other critical stakeholders to drive collective progress and ensure that governance at the grassroots reflects the will and needs of the people.
His agenda also includes investment in sports development, promotion of cultural exchange programmes, and deliberate support for persons living with disabilities.
Ejibendu’s leadership style, political observers say, is rooted in fairness, honesty, and inclusiveness, with a strong commitment to transparency and accountability.
Insiders say he is determined to make Idemili South a model local government through the provision of basic amenities such as potable water, reliable electricity, accessible healthcare facilities, and an improved road network.
He explained that his infrastructure plan would focus on the rehabilitation of existing roads, construction of new ones, and installation of effective drainage systems to curb flooding.
He also pledged to improve public transportation, provide adequate street lighting, and ensure regular sanitation of public spaces to make Idemili South clean, safe, and attractive.
On security, Ejibendu emphasized its centrality to development, vowing to roll out four key initiatives to safeguard lives and property. These include community policing in line the Governor Charles Soludo’s security arrangement, youth empowerment as a crime-prevention strategy, deployment of modern surveillance systems, and the establishment of a functional emergency response team.
As preparations for the council polls gather momentum, observers note that Ejibendu’s aspiration is gaining traction, with increasing support from party stakeholders and community influencers who see his vision as pragmatic and people-focused.
Some residents, who spoke anonymously, expressed hope for positive change, explaining the need for leaders who will listen, unite the people, and genuinely work in the interest of the grassroots.
They described Ejibendu as a unifying figure who has consistently demonstrated commitment to peaceful coexistence.
“Hon. Ejibendu has made it clear that he will not practice divide-and-rule politics. His promise is to unite the people of Idemili South, irrespective of background, culture, or political affiliation. He believes unity is the key to unlocking our full potential and is committed to building a transparent, accountable, and inclusive government, ”one resident said.
As the polls draw closer, Ejibendu is calling on delegates and major stakeholders to support his “My Offer to Serve” initiative, assuring them of tireless service and people-oriented governance.
He further pledged that, if elected, he would constitute a diverse and representative cabinet made up of seasoned professionals, community leaders, and youth representatives to drive his development agenda and ensure that government remains responsive to the needs of all citizens of Idemili South.
