Utuh monarch shines at 2025 new yam festival

The Utuh community came alive on Saturday, September 30, 2025, as they gathered at the palace of Igwe Peter Ilomuanya, Eze Onye Odiiri II, to celebrate the 2025 New Yam Festival.

The event was a resounding success, drawing community leaders, representatives from Utuh branches and other notable individuals.

In his opening remarks, Igwe Ilomuanya expressed gratitude to God for another year of blessings and for the gift of life for himself and his subjects. He welcomed attendees despite their busy schedules and thanked God for the wisdom bestowed upon him to lead his people. The monarch emphasized that the New Yam Festival is a time for thanksgiving for the harvest and achievements in the land, as well as an opportunity for reflection and future planning for the community.

Igwe Ilomuanya praised farmers for their hard work and encouraged others to emulate them by focusing on agriculture. He also commended Governor Soludo’s administration for efforts in agricultural transformation and prayed for continued success in his tenure.

Chief Oliver Emukai (Akusinachi of Utuh), representing the Onitsha branch, explained that the New Yam Festival is an annual event to appreciate God for agricultural progress. He stressed the importance of embracing culture and tradition as the foundation for community development.

the Mayor of the club, and Chimezie Okoli ( Ibemaraezuokwu ) expressed joy at witnessing this year’s festival. They praised Igwe Ilomuanya and his cabinet for their efforts to uplift the community and prayed for continued prosperity.

In a vote of thanks, Igwe Ilomuanya appreciated his subjects for their unwavering support throughout the year, promising to continue his fair and just leadership. He extended special thanks to the guests who graced the event.

The festival featured the cutting of yams, cultural displays and gift presentations to the Igwe by various branches, clubs, friends and well-wishers. The celebration showcased the community’s rich cultural heritage, emphasizing the importance of unity and progress.
