Lawyers advised to value partnership as NBA, Nnewi branch celebrates 25th annual law week, receives President Osuigwe (SAN)

The 25th annual law week celebration of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Nnewi branch featured the grand reception of the NBA President, Mazi Afam Osigwe (SAN) whose emergence as the NBA President has been described by the lawyers as not just a personal achievement, but a historical milestone for the Nnewi Bar and Anambra legal community at large. 

The event that took place at Classic Munich Hotel, Nnewi, Anambra State also had in attendance the NBA Nnewi branch Chairman, K.G. Abonyi, MCArb.; the Administrative Judge, Anambra State High Court and the guest speaker, Hon. Justice Emeka Okuma.

Others are the APC governorship candidate for the November, 8, gubernatorial election, Evang.Nicholas Ukachukwu, represented by Mr Dozie Ikedife Jnr;  Mr  Ike Obeta; Dr Raph Nduka, Chikaosolu Ojukwu (SAN); Chief G. O. Osuigwe (SAN), and many others. 

With the theme: “Facing The Future”, K.G. Abonyi in his address told the gathering that this year’s law week was carefully designed to provoke thought, foster dialogue, and inspire innovation among legal practitioners and policy makers.

Abonyi also said that the lawyers came together to celebrate their own, their son, their pride, and their President, Osigwe (SAN) who emerged as the 32nd President of the  Nigeria Bar Association.

“We are exceedingly proud of your vision, courage and your service to the profession, and we are delighted to host this grand reception in your honour, “Abonyi added.

He appreciated the family of their late father, mentor, and icon, Chief Bennett Etiaba. He said that the NBA, Nnewi  branch well appreciated the Etiaba family for what he described as their enduring commitment to the growth of the legal profession in Nnewi, especially toward the completion of their Bar Center. 

He also expressed appreciation to Chief Oseloka Osuigwe (SAN) for his untiring efforts towards the completion of the Bar  Center. He appealed to all stakeholders to support the full  completion of the Bar Center. 

The Guest Speaker, Hon. Justice Emeka Okuma in his speech dwelt on the future of Nigeria legal practice. 

He advised members to learn and relearn. He said that lawyers should follow the trend of technology and equip themselves with enough knowledge to avoid being left behind. 

He noted that partnership should be the ideal thing and advised practitioners to avoid one man practice which he said would undermine the growth of the legal practice. 

There were award presentations and dinner to cap the day’s event.
