The Anambra State Town Unions Council Youth Wing (ASTUC Youth) has honoured outstanding personalities in Idemili South Local Government Area for their contributions to community development, youth empowerment and exemplary leadership.

The group also declared support for Hon. Ikenna Iyiegbu, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for Idemili North and Idemili South Federal Constituency.

The second edition of the role model celebration and award presentation was held at the Idemili South Local Government Headquarters, Ojoto, attracting distinguished personalities and community stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, ASTUC Youth President, Comrade Ken Okoli, said the initiative was designed to celebrate individuals whose achievements and conduct promote positive values and inspire younger generations.

He disclosed that the award recipients were nominated by youth leaders in their respective communities, adding that the organisation would continue to monitor their activities, celebrate their accomplishments and engage them on issues relating to their conduct and contributions to society.

Okoli also declared that the seven communities in Idemili South would support Hon. Ikenna Iyiegbu in his bid to represent Idemili North and Idemili South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

In his welcome address, the Youth Mayor of Nnokwa, Idemili South LGA, Comrade Ifeanyi Eriobu Anakuba, said the awardees had demonstrated leadership qualities worthy of emulation.

He urged young people to draw inspiration from the recipients’ achievements and embrace values that would promote community development and responsible leadership.

The chairman of the occasion and former Deputy Mayor of Idemili South LGA, Mr. Ifeanyi Anakuba, described the area as a hub of empowerment and urged youths to study and emulate the positive attributes of their role models.

He advised young people to channel their energy into productive ventures, stressing that youth activism should focus on value creation rather than violence, restiveness and other negative tendencies.

Anakuba also charged the award recipients to uphold integrity and remain worthy ambassadors of their communities, noting that their conduct could significantly influence younger generations.

The Vice-Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Prof. Kate Omenugha, represented by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Value Reformation, Dr. Nelson Omenugha, commended the organisers and pledged continued support for their programmes.

The event also featured the presentation of a portrait highlighting the 12 core values associated with the Anambra State Government’s value reformation agenda.

Other award recipients, recognised for their contributions to youth development and as icons of hope, included Amb. Chinedu Okonkwo, Chief Emeka Omemma, Chief Chidi Ogbuefi, Engr. Nwamara Joackin, Chief Ogochukwu Chukwuneke, Obi Chukwu and Chief Ifeanyi Onwupenata.
