The Igbo Adagbe Youth Congress has called on the Anambra State Governor’s Special Adviser on Homeland Security, Mr Ken Emeakayi, to urgently review the operations of the Udogachi security team in Anambra East Local Government Area following allegations of misconduct, illegal money collection and threats to residents’ lives.

The demand was contained in a press statement signed by the president of the Congress, Comrade Bede Tochukwu Ekwenze.

The group urged the state government to investigate the allegations and consider reshuffling or replacing personnel where necessary if misconduct is established.

According to the Congress, it has received disturbing reports alleging that some members of the security outfit were collecting money illegally from residents and threatening people amid the ongoing crisis in the area.

It called on the relevant authorities to conduct an impartial and thorough investigation into the allegations and take appropriate action against anyone found culpable.

The Congress warned that the prevailing crisis must not be exploited by security personnel to intimidate residents, demand unauthorised payments or threaten their safety.

It insisted that all security outfits must operate within the law and uphold the principles of professionalism, discipline and accountability.

The statement further called for stronger supervision of the Udogachi security team, an immediate investigation into the reported incidents and decisive measures to protect residents and restore public confidence in local security operations.

The Congress maintained that security personnel were entrusted with the responsibility of protecting lives and property, not creating fear or subjecting residents to intimidation.

It reiterated its demand for professionalism, accountability and orderliness among all local security outfits operating in Anambra East, urging the authorities to prioritise residents’ safety and ensure that anyone found to have abused their position faces appropriate consequences.

The group said a thorough investigation and appropriate corrective measures were necessary to safeguard residents and restore confidence in the security arrangements in the area.
