The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), South East Zone, has raised concern over the rising cost of electricity, warning that many industries in the region are operating below 30 percent of their installed capacity.
Speaking after the South East Industrial Energy Solutions and Investment Symposium, the zonal chairman, Lady Adaora Ogochukwu Chukwudozie, said the high cost of power and exclusion of the region from the national gas pipeline have increased production costs and reduced competitiveness.
She said MAN had launched the Industrial Energy Adoption Programme through its Manpower Development Company Limited (MPDCL) to help manufacturers access affordable, reliable and sustainable energy solutions.
According to her, the initiative is expected to improve productivity, strengthen partnerships and reduce dependence on costly diesel-powered generators.
MAN National President, Otunba Francis Meshioye, urged manufacturers to embrace the programme, while Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, represented at the event, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to partnering with MAN to create a more conducive business environment.
