Teachers in Anambra State on Tuesday joined a nationwide protest led by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), demanding the immediate release of teachers and students abducted in parts of Nigeria.

The protesters marched in Awka, urging government and security agencies to strengthen school safety and secure the release of victims still in captivity.

Anambra NUT Chairman, Comrade Chika Chukwudozie, said the rally was in solidarity with teachers and learners abducted in Oyo and Borno states, describing attacks on schools as a threat to education and national development.

She called for the safe and unconditional release of all those held captive.

Receiving the protesters, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. Okechi Egbuna, assured them that their concerns would be conveyed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo and reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting security efforts.
