Youths in Nnewi, Anambra State have been urged to embrace innovation and leverage digital technology to compete on the global stage, as a three-day training programme titled “Nnewi Youth Digital Skills” kicked off with a strong message of hope and opportunity.

The programme, sponsored by Hon. Ekene Iwuchukwu and themed “Innovation Without Borders,” brought together young people eager to explore opportunities in the fast-evolving world of technology.

Delivering his opening address, the sponsor welcomed participants to what he described as “a three-day journey into the future of technology,” noting the immense talent present among the youths.

“The world is changing. Information and Communication Technology is no longer just a tool; it is the bridge that connects a semi-rural town to the global stage.

“You don’t need to be in a skyscraper to build the next big app or solve a global crisis. You only need a vision and the courage to start, ”he said.

He challenged participants to think beyond their immediate environment, urging them to adopt a global mindset while addressing local challenges.

“Think globally, how can your ideas impact people thousands of miles away? Act locally, what problems in your own backyard can technology solve today? And connect deeply, the person sitting next to you might be your future co-founder,” he added.

Hon. Iwuchukwu expressed pride in sponsoring the initiative, emphasizing his belief in the potential of young people in the community.

“I believe in the power of your potential. Let us use this time to innovate, disrupt, and prove that talent knows no boundaries,” he added.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the event, the leader of the organizing team and a software developer, Miss Iwuchukwu Divine Ifunanya, said the programme was designed to equip participants with relevant digital skills and open up income-generating opportunities.

According to her, the training introduces participants to key areas such as Web Development, AI Engineering, Product Design, and Data Analysis, with the aim of helping them identify and pursue career paths of interest.

“This programme is meant to expose the students to what these courses are all about and give them the opportunity to choose the area they prefer,” she said.

Highlighting the growing relevance of artificial intelligence, Ifunanya explained that participants would also learn how to effectively use AI tools to enhance productivity.

“They are taught how to use AI and how to prompt it properly to make their work easier. Nowadays, most companies reduce their labour force with the use of AI. The work ten people can do, two people can do it with the application of AI,” she noted.

The Nnewi Youth Digital Skills BootCamp training is expected to empower limitless number of participants with foundational knowledge and inspire them to further develop their expertise, positioning them for opportunities in the global digital economy.
