Late Mr Kelechi Ejiofor
The Abia State Government has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of Mr Kelechi Ejiofor, a trailer driver who lost his life in a fatal shooting involving a soldier at the Uratta Timber Market in Aba.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, described the incident as heartbreaking, noting that it has cast a shadow of grief across the state.
The government extended its sincere condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and all those affected by the painful loss.
Prince Kanu disclosed that the state government is actively engaging with the Military High Command to ensure a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“We wish to assure the family of the deceased and the general public that justice will not only be pursued but will also be seen to be done. Any officer found culpable will face the full weight of disciplinary and legal consequences,” he said.
The government also urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and peaceful as efforts continue to uncover the root cause of the unfortunate incident.
“We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property, the rule of law, and the fundamental rights of every citizen. Abia State remains resolute in ensuring that no act of injustice goes unanswered,” the statement added.
