A group of activists in Onitsha, Anambra State, has urged Nigerians to prioritize spiritual values as a pathway to addressing the country’s persistent challenges, including insecurity, corruption, poverty, and unemployment.

The group, led by journalist and author Theo Rays Ejikeme, made the call during the launch of a community programme tagged Ekpere Ime Ogbe (Neutral Prayer Vibe), organised by Divine Illumination Integrated Concept.

Speaking at the event, Ejikeme said Nigeria’s problems are worsened by an overemphasis on political influence without addressing its negative tendencies such as greed, dishonesty, and abuse of power. He stressed that spiritual awareness and moral discipline are essential for achieving good governance.

According to him, the initiative aims to inspire citizens and leaders to embrace values such as truth, accountability, and service, which he described as critical to national development.

Other speakers at the event echoed similar views. Businessman and community leader Zeribe Ezeanuna noted that ideological divisions and ethnic tensions have slowed Nigeria’s progress, urging citizens to adopt new ideas that promote unity and productivity.

A traditional leader, Godwin Onwukwe, described the programme as timely, calling on communities to take responsibility for their development through collective effort and faith.

Meanwhile, Anambra State Chairman of the Civil Liberties Organisation, Vincent Ezechukwu, encouraged Nigerians to actively participate in the electoral process, noting that civic responsibility remains key to national transformation.

The event also featured prayers led by clerics, including Nnamdi Ezeonu, alongside goodwill messages from religious and community leaders.

Organisers said the programme would continue to promote ethical leadership, civic responsibility, and spiritual consciousness as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections.
