The Archbishop of the Onitsha Catholic Archdiocese, Most Rev. Valerian Maduka Okeke, has laid the foundation for a new rectory at Shanahan University.
The ceremony, held at the university’s permanent site in Trans-Nkisi Layout, Onitsha, attracted clergy, academics, and members of the Catholic faithful.
The five-storey rectory, designed to house priests serving the institution, is being funded by Engineer Ikem Osanakpo and his family in memory of their late parents, Louis and Kate Osanakpo.
Speaking at the event, Archbishop Okeke prayed for the successful completion of the project and for God’s blessings on the donors, as well as the continued growth of the university.
The Archdiocesan Education Secretary, Rev. Fr. Dr. Paschal Onwugbenu, also offered prayers for the speedy completion of the building.
Engineer Osanakpo said the project reflects his family’s commitment to supporting education and the Church, adding that it is part of efforts to promote development in Onitsha beyond commerce.
The contractor, Engineer Uche Ubajiaka, described the project as significant, noting it would provide a conducive residence for priests.
Dignitaries at the event included Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Basil Ekwunife, Very Rev. Fr. Prof. Josephat Obi Oguejiofor, and Very Rev. Fr. Dr. George Adimike, among others.
