Controller of Corrections, Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) Anambra state Command, CC Ike Aslem has charged newly promoted officers to justify their elevation by taking their responsibilities more seriously.

Ike gave the charge on Tuesday at the decoration of 59 officers witnessed by Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, representatives of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), other security agencies and family members of the officers.

The elected officers included 2 Assistant Comptroller of Corrections, 3 Chief Superintendent, 11 superintendent and 19 Deputy Superintendent.

Others are 11 Assistant Superintendent I, 4 Assist superintendent II, 3 Chief Correction Assistant, 4 Senior Correction Assistant and 2 Correction Assistant II.

Addressing the officers, the CC described promotion as divine with higher responsibilities, urging the officers not to toy with their assignments.

He said, “Promotion comes from God and the moment you’re elevated, your responsibility will automatically increase to justify your salary. So you dare not joke with your job.

“If you’re the one that plays truancy, you’re expected to desist forthwith because of the higher responsibility your new position demands.

Also speaking, CP Orutugu warned the officers against indiscipline, advising them to always adhere to orders and directives from their bosses.

“In the Police, you can be promoted today and demoted tomorrow. So your promotion today demands discipline and respect to retain your present positions,” he noted.

The CP also stressed the importance of the ceremony as well as need for officers to always be accompanied by their spouses.

“Anytime you’re being promoted, it’s very important you come with your spouse. Don’t leave him/her at home, except those not physically fit.

“Decoration day is like wedding day. Even if the two are quarrelling, they must wed. So even if you’re quarrelling, make sure you come with your spouse and take that salute from him or her,” he added.
