PHC leadership challenge fund: Winners smile home with millions

Wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to building a responsive, accountable, innovative, and people-centred healthcare system.


Speaking at the Primary Health Care (PHC) Leadership Challenge Fund Award Ceremony in Awka, Dr. Soludo said the administration of Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has continued to prioritize healthcare through investments in infrastructure, healthcare personnel, primary health centres, essential medicines, and maternal and child health services.


She described primary healthcare as the foundation of disease prevention, health promotion, immunization, nutrition, and community health education, stressing that her Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative has complemented government efforts through various health interventions.


Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, said the challenge fund was designed to promote leadership, accountability, innovation, and improved healthcare outcomes across local government areas.


At the awards, Chairman of Anaocha Local Government Area, Rome Ibekwe, emerged overall winner and received N3 million.

Anayo Orjiakor of Ihiala LGA came second with N2 million, while Dr. Emma Nweke of Oyi LGA placed third and received N1 million.


Other award recipients included Dr. Amadi Chibuike (Best Telemedicine Doctor) and Chukwuma Ifeoma (Best HIV Desk Officer), who each received N200,000. Mrs. Edith Onwuka won the Best Programme Manager Award and received N300,000.


Representatives of the World Health Organization, UNICEF and Médecins Sans Frontières delivered goodwill messages at the event.
