The Association of Non-Indigenes in Anambra State (ANIAS) has conferred an award of recognition on Chief Daniel Onyia, inducting him into the ANIAS Elders Council in appreciation of his contributions to peace, unity and support for non-indigenes living and doing business in Anambra State.

The recognition ceremony, held at Chief Onyia’s residence in Asaba, Delta State, was attended by ANIAS leaders, traders representatives and key stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, ANIAS Legal Adviser, Barr. Emmanuel Okafor, described the association as an umbrella body for all non-indigenes residing, trading or connected to Anambra State.
He commended Governor Charles Soludo for his transformative approach to governance, noting that non-indigenes and host communities were benefiting from his policies in education, infrastructure and security.
Barr. Okafor further pledged the association’s loyalty and maximum cooperation to ensure the success of the current administration, adding that ANIAS was also working to curb social vices among its members and within the wider society.
In his welcome address, ANIAS President, Prince Chigozie Nweke explained that the honour followed recommendations from the Ebonyi community in Onitsha, where Chief Onyia has been notably supportive.
He explained that the association travelled to Asaba to honour him because that is where he resides.
According to him, the award aligns with the State development vision, particularly in education, adding that ANIAS is committed to supporting vulnerable non-indigenes, getting children off the streets and enrolling them in school.
Responding, Chief Daniel Onyia, a trader at Onitsha Main Market, expressed gratitude for the recognition, describing it as a moment of joy and responsibility. He pledged continued support to ANIAS and reaffirmed his backing for policies that promote development and harmony in Anambra State. He also praised Governor Soludo’s efforts, particularly in road infrastructure and the transformation of areas such as Okpoko.
Similarly, the traditional Prime Minister of Isuaniocha in Awka North LGA, High Chief Charles Okoye described the award as well deserved, noting Chief Onyia good character and community spirit. He applauded the State government achievements in roads, education and security, urging ANIAS to sustain its good works and cooperation with constituted authorities.
On his part, the Secretary General of Anambra State Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA), Chief Macaulay Ekwe, noted that Governor Soludo administration does not discriminate against non-indigenes, citing employment opportunities for competent non-indigenes.
He described Chief Onyia as industrious and deserving of the honour, highlighting his empowerment efforts and encouragement to others.
The event underscored ANIAS emphasis on inclusion, peaceful coexistence and collective responsibility toward development in Anambra State.
