Nonye Soludo, Senator Ekwunife on cross fire over allegations of paternity, infidelity

Tensions have risen in Anambra politics following a heated exchange between Dr (Mrs) Nonye Soludo, wife of Governor Charles Soludo, and Dr (Mrs) Senator Uche Ekwunife, the deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement on Friday, Mrs. Soludo accused Senator Ekwunife of crossing the red line by dragging her family and children into political disputes. She alleged that Ekwunife, in a viral audio recording, threatened to fabricate damaging claims against her family.

The Governor’s wife, who said she had maintained a quiet life away from politics, noted that she could no longer ignore the Senator’s remarks after her children were mentioned.

She challenged Ekwunife to take an oath of fidelity and chastity in a Catholic cathedral and also proposed that both families subject their children to paternity tests in London.

She gave the Senator 72 hours to withdraw her statements and tender an apology, warning that her lawyers had been placed on notice.

Mrs Soludo insisted that she had only known her husband in her 55 years of life, adding that her marriage of 33 years was built on fidelity.

Responding, Senator Ekwunife dismissed the challenges as unnecessary. She said Mrs Soludo owed no explanation to her but only to her husband if questions of fidelity or paternity arose.

Ekwunife maintained that she should not be dragged into what she described as “personal and family affairs.”

The Senator added that she remained focused on her political mission and contrasted her own achievements with those of the Governor’s wife, insisting she had built her career independently of her husband’s positions.

Both women have stood firmly by their positions, underscoring the growing political and personal tensions in Anambra as the 2025 elections draw closer.
