2027: Why Hon. Akwuobi stands out among Ogbaru 1 aspirants

By Tobias Ekirika

As the May 23, 2026 primary election of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) approaches, Hon. (Sir) Kenneth Akwuobi has emerged as a strong contender for the Ogbaru 1 State Constituency ticket in Anambra State.

Currently serving as Mayor of Ogbaru Local Government Area, Akwuobi’s rise in local governance followed his initial role as Deputy Mayor. He later assumed full leadership and has since built a reputation for grassroots connection and service delivery.

Within about 18 months in office, Akwuobi has executed development projects across all 16 wards in Ogbaru, including road repairs in key areas such as Okpoko and surrounding communities. He also led the reconstruction and furnishing of critical administrative buildings within the council secretariat, including the legislative complex and traditional rulers’ facility.

His administration has further focused on improving infrastructure and restoring previously dilapidated public buildings, with a major multi-storey office complex currently nearing completion.

In the area of security, residents and workers report significant improvements, with safer conditions now encouraging regular activities within the local government area.

With the party adopting the Option A4 system, which emphasizes open voting and grassroots strength, Akwuobi’s local support base is seen as a key advantage ahead of the primaries.
