2027: APC, ADC, NDC set for fierce battle as INEC closes membership register submission

By Our Correspondent

With the deadline for political parties to submit membership registers to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ending on May 10, indications have emerged that the All Progressives Congress (APC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and New Democratic Congress (NDC) may become the major contenders in the 2027 presidential election.

The political landscape has shifted significantly since the 2023 election, largely due to internal crises within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP), forcing key political figures to seek new platforms.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to retain the APC ticket, while former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has reportedly aligned with the ADC.

Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi is also expected to emerge as the NDC presidential candidate after the party zoned its ticket to the South. Obi has repeatedly declared his intention to contest and serve only one term if elected.

Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is believed to be favoured for the vice-presidential slot under the arrangement.

Within the ADC, other presidential hopefuls include former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and businessman Mohamed Hayatu-Deen.

Meanwhile, the PDP remains deeply divided between camps loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde over the party’s national leadership.

Although a recent Supreme Court judgment reportedly upheld the suspension of Sam Anyanwu as PDP National Secretary, INEC’s portal still recognises officials linked to the Wike faction, fueling further uncertainty within the party.
