The Zone 13 Police headquarters Ukpo, Dunukofia Local Governnment Area of Anambra State and National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Anambra State Chapter joined the international community to celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day towards actualizing gender equality and safer environment for women.

This year’s theme.is: “Accelerate Action: For a Gender-Equal World,” a subtle reminder to mankind that true equality requires bold and collective action.
In a goodwill message to.mark the year’s event, the Office of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIGP) through the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Ihunwo extended warm greetings to women across Anambra, Enugu, and Ebonyi states and assured them of the Command’s unwavering commitment to promoting gender equality, safety, and the protection of women’s rights.
The Command commended women for their invaluable contributions to society, emphasizing their roles in fostering peace, security, and development.
She encouraged them to continue striving for excellence while reaffirming the Command’s dedication to creating a safe environment where women can thrive and contribute meaningfully to societal growth.
“On this special occasion, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and achievements of women. We wish you a successful and fulfilling International Women’s Day,” the statement added.
Also, NAWOJ’s Chairperson in Anambra State, Comrade Toochukwu Ifejika said the occasion calls for honour and celebration of strength, resilience and achievements of women around the world.
Reflecting on the theme, Ifejika pointed out that a “gender-equal world is not just an aspiration, it is a necessity. It calls for dismantling systemic barriers, challenging biases and ensuring that women and girls have equal opportunities in education, leadership healthcare, governance….
“As we celebrate this day, I urge us all to commit to advancing economic empowerment for women, increasing women’s representation in leadership and decision making, ensuring access to quality education and healthcare, eliminating gender based violence and discrimination. “Every woman deserves to live in a world where her voice is heard, her dreams are nurtured and her potential is limitless.”
In addition, she noted that the event is a celebration of the victories, progress and journey ahead, urging “…let’s keep pushing forward, taking action and driving change for a more inclusive and equitable world.”
Going further, she stressed:”As we celebrate this day, I urge us all to commit to advancing economic empowerment for women, increasing women’s representation in leadership and decision making, ensuring access to quality education and healthcare, eliminating gender based violence and discrimination. Every woman deserves to live in a world where her voice is heard, her dreams are nurtured and her potential is limitless.
“Moreso, we celebrate the victories, progress and journey ahead. But beyond celebration, let’s keep pushing forward, taking action and driving change for a more inclusive and equitable world.”
