Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State has introduced soilless farming to tackle limited land space and improve crop production across communities.

Council Chairman, Barr. Chinonso Nwafor, said the initiative is designed to help farmers maximize small spaces and grow high-yield crops, including varieties not traditionally cultivated in the South-East.

He added that the council has also registered a farm and acquired 100 plots of land for large-scale cultivation of diverse crops.

According to him, the programme aims to boost agricultural output, empower residents, and strengthen the local economy.

Facilitator and founder of Big Berry Farm Nigeria, Mr. Ejike Indeke, said farmers were trained on hydroponic soilless techniques and empowered with hybrid seedlings such as plantain suckers, tomatoes, pepper, and vegetables to support modern farming practices.

Managing Director of Orumba Farms Limited, Dr. Raymond Offor, praised the initiative, noting it would revolutionize agriculture and reduce food prices.

Participants from various communities described the training as impactful and pledged to apply the knowledge gained.
The event featured distribution of seedlings and inauguration of farmers’ cooperatives.
