Police in Anambra State on Sunday foiled an armed robbery attempt at Igboukwu community in Aguata Local Government Area as one of the robbers was killed in the process.
A report from the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Deputy Superintendent of Police, Tochukwu Ikenga said the gang boarded a commercial bus from Nnewi and arrived a police checkpoint at Igboukwu where the bus was stopped for a search. He said one of the hoodlums alighted, pulled a baretta pistol but was gunned down before he could release a bullet.
DSP Ikenga said a dagger was found in a bag they were travelling with after a search. He said the barreta pistol was recovered.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye who praised the police personnel for their vigilance has directed State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case for thorough investigation.
He has also ordered the immediate release of two elderly passengers who boarded the bus at a different location.
