A three-storey building under construction on Wednesday evening caved in along Enugu – Onitsha expressway, Awka, Anambra State.
The building, located beside Diamond Pizza, opposite 5 Star Restaurant is said to be at the roofing level.
Eyewitnesses at the scene said unconfirmed casualties have been rescued from the rubbles by officers of the State Fire Service who arrived the area shortly after the incident.
A staff of the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) said the cause of the collapse may not be unconnected to weak concrete.
“ACTDA is currently at the site working. Weak concrete is one of the reasons for the collapse. No casualties recorded for now,” she said.
Though the cause of the collapse is yet to be confirmed by relevant authorities, rescue operation was ongoing as at the time of filing this report.
