Jubilation in Anambra communities as security returns to motor parks

Residents of Nkpor in Idemili North local government area of Anambra State, yesterday, expressed joy following the news that Nkpor park operators have restored security and tranquility in the area.

The Nkpor residents including those of Umuoji, Ojoto, Obosi and environs commended the efforts of Governor Charles Soludo for adopting adequate measures to combat crime in all parts of the State.

Speaking to journalists on the development, they extolled the efforts of AIRS and State Ministry of Transport for coming to the rescue of both motorists and road users following the hardship and sufferings allegedly created by former Nkpor park operators.

Recall that Nkpor residents were previously gripped by a growing sense of fear and unease as cases of robbery continued to surge along Nkpor old road due to masked boys that worked in Nkpor motor park which made the residents to be living in constant anxiety, demanding immediate action from authorities to restore safety and protect their lives and property.

These insecurity issues, including the ‘one-chance’ occurrences in public transportation happened daily on old road Nkpor and Nkpor-Umuoji road. Car snatching, armed robbery became the order of the day, yet it seemed like little or nothing was being done to tackle the growing insecurity concern.

Expressing frustration over the deteriorating security situation in Nkpor-Umuoji road and parks, a trader at Nkpor, Mr Chidubem Okoye, said it was a terrifying situation to think about using the affected roads.

He noted that Nkpor used to be a safe place before the situation changed. He thanked Governor Soludo who he said had restored sanity by his intervention.

“I couldn’t even let my children play outside anymore or trek home before now. It’s heartbreaking to witness this decline in safety and security in our once peaceful community. But now my children and other neighbors’ school children can manage to trek home, “he said.

Narrating their ordeal, some residents, Messers Ngozi Udo, Chika Muoghalu and Ifeka Okeke said that the ugly incident happened on a daily basis and was so worrisome that things continued as if nothing was happening.

They praised the State Government for its intervention to prove that it has the citizens’ interests at heart.

Both commercial and private motorists who spoke to newsmen commended the State Government for listening to their citizens who were lamenting with the loudest tone ever heard.

They said they believed in Governor Soludo, saying that they relied on his ability to eradicate the menace ravaging the communities.

They eulogized Governor Soludo’s leadership style, saying that they were happy to breathe in fresh air of free movement in every nook and cranny of some communities in Idemili North who use Nkpor motor park and Nkpor-Umuoji road.
