The Nzom family recently came together in Abubor Nnewichi Nnewi, Anambra State, to celebrate the life of their beloved matriarch, Mrs. Nonyelum Nzom Ezeofia, née Anunobi, affectionately known as Ome Nwa.

The 88-year-old passed away, leaving behind an enduring legacy of faith, discipline, and selfless love for her family and community.

Her burial was a heartfelt tribute to a life devoted to service and generosity, attended by family, friends, and well-wishers who gathered to honor her memory.

Born to the late Mr Ezekwuru Anunobi and the late Mrs Patience Anunobi of Ezeobua in Nnewichi Nnewi, Mrs Nonyelum Nzom’s life was marked by a strong commitment to her faith.

Though she was born into a pagan family, she embraced Christianity early in her life, ensuring her children were baptized in the Anglican Church.

Her steadfast devotion to Christ saw her become an active member of the Anglican Communion, where she earned the title Ezinne in recognition of her dedication and service.

She also held a leadership role as treasurer of the Anglican Women’s Guild, managing the church’s Ekpere Ututu, a financial initiative that supported its activities.

Known for her firm discipline, Mrs Nonyelum instilled values of integrity, hard work, and respect in her children, guiding them to steer clear of negative influences.

Despite her modest means, she demonstrated a profound spirit of generosity, often giving to both the less fortunate and the church.

She was loved by her neighbors, who remembered her as a peacemaker and a caring figure in the community, always willing to offer support in times of need.

During the funeral, her son, Chukwunwendu Nzom, popularly known as Azuka Anaedo, paid an emotional tribute to his late mother. In his tribute, Azuka described her as an inspiring figure whose wisdom and strength shaped his life.

He recalled how she constantly encouraged him to be resilient and dedicated.

“Our mother was a heroine who never fought to lose any battle. The seeds of love she planted in our lives will continue to grow,” he said, reflecting on her lasting impact.

On behalf of the Nzom family, Azuka Anaedo expressed their gratitude to all who had offered support during the difficult period, particularly the family’s in-laws, whose presence was a great source of comfort.

Some of the deceased’s in-laws and guests who were interviewed included Mr Onuoha (Onyenso) from Enugu State, Chief Ben Nwosu (Ogbunechendo Oraifite), Chibueze Enuma, and Chief Ogbuefi Chinedu from Isialangwa. They commended the Nzom family for upholding the values instilled by their late matriarch and encouraged them to continue the legacy of love, faith, and service that Mrs. Nzom had exemplified throughout her life.

The funeral was not only a moment of sorrow but also a celebration of Mrs Nzom’s extraordinary life.

Her legacy of faith, generosity, and selflessness remains a powerful reminder of the lasting impact one individual can have on their family and community.
