Chief Emmanuel Nwachukwu, a banker, accountant, and entrepreneur emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the August 16, 2025, Anambra South Senatorial district by-election.

His nomination follows the death of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah on July 27, 2024, which created the vacant seat.

Nwachukwu’s emergence came through a consensus arrangement among aspirants, supervised by Governor Charles Soludo. Party leaders described the process as peaceful and rancour-free, a rare achievement in APGA’s internal politics.
The consensus saw other aspirants, including Hon. Paschal Agbodike, Dr. Ebuka Onunkwo, and Chief Akai Egwuonwu, step down for Nwachukwu, though some members claimed there was pressure to withdraw. The final decision was affirmed at the Aguata Local Government secretariat through a voice vote of delegates.
In accepting the ticket, Nwachukwu pledged to run an inclusive campaign focused on the welfare of the people. He promised to pursue projects that would empower citizens economically, improve infrastructure, and promote sustainable development across Anambra South.
He assured constituents of effective representation in the Senate and called on the electorate to support his bid to accelerate the district’s growth.
During his campaign outing in Nnewi Local Government Area Friday, August 8, 2025 he promised to complete all the projects Senator Ifeanyi Ubah initiated before his demise and to start new ones according to the needs of Anambra South Senatorial district constituents.
At the campaign, Governor Charles Soludo who has been solidly behind the candidacy of Chief Nwachukwu appealed to Ndị Nnewi to rally support for Nwachukwu to deliver him to become a Senator representing the district.
The Governor noted that the electoral victory of Chief Nwachukwu would serve as a test tube for the expected support for his second term election coming up on November 8.
“We have brought out someone who will give quality representation to the people of Anambra South Senatorial district in the person of Emma Nwachukwu.
“We can recall that some Nnewi indigenes like Senators Onyeabor Obi, Ikechukwu Obiorah and late Ifeanyi Ubah were supported by others when they went to Senate to represent Anambra South. In like manner, let us support Emma Nwachukwu. We give to one section this time and another section next time to balance the political equations.
“I have not left out Nnewi in infrastructure development. We constructed some roads in Nnewi including Ezemewi, Igwe Orizu, Okpuno-Eze and St Mary Roads to ensure good road network in the industrial community.
“Many more roads are also going to be constructed very soon as well as other infrastructure development, “the Governor said.
The Executive Chairman of Nnewi North Council Area, Hon Echezona Anazodo in a short speech assured the Governor that Ndị Nnewi would do his biding to ensure that Chief Nwachukwu wins the by-election coming up on August 16.
He said that Chief Nwachukwu’s victory at the polls on August 16 would confirm the readiness of the Nnewi people to massively vote for Governor Soludo come November 8 to do his second tenure.
“You will hear from us on Saturday, “the Nnewi North Mayor promised Chief Nwachukwu.
The campaign rally attracted all the political juggernauts under the APGA platform, industrialists and business moguls in Nnewi.
