The Anambra State Special Anti-Touting Squad Agency (SASA) has destroyed hard drugs valued at over ₦50 million following a major crackdown on drug trafficking in Awka and surrounding communities.

SASA spokesperson Karen James said the operation led to the arrest of several suspected drug dealers and buyers.

Recovered substances included Mkpurummiri, cocaine, cannabis, loud and other prohibited narcotics.

The suspects and exhibits were handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution, while those arraigned have been remanded by a competent court.

Speaking during the destruction of the seized drugs, SASA Managing Director, Monday Nwokoye, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to tackling drug abuse, touting and other criminal activities across Anambra State.

He urged residents to support security agencies with credible information and warned those involved in the production, sale or consumption of hard drugs to desist, stressing that offenders would continue to face the law.

Nwokoye also commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for supporting security initiatives aimed at making the state safer.
