The Enugu State Government has called for stronger collaboration among government agencies, civil society organisations, development partners and communities to combat Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Ngozi Enih, made the call during an advocacy visit by the Women Information Network (WINET) and its partners under the project, “Strengthening Women Rights Organizations for Gender-Based Violence Prevention.”
Enih said collective action was crucial to addressing GBV, noting that cultural beliefs and societal norms continue to drive violence against women and vulnerable persons.
She added that stronger partnerships would improve awareness, response mechanisms and support for survivors.
The commissioner also highlighted funding challenges facing the ministry and called for sustained support from stakeholders.
Earlier, WINET Programme Manager, Mrs. Ijeoma Obinna-Onwuka, said the project, supported by the Amandla Institute for Policy and Leadership Advancement (AIPLA), aims to strengthen efforts to prevent and respond to GBV.
She reaffirmed WINET’s commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to build a society free from violence and discrimination.
