The Anambra Internal Revenue Service (AIRS) has dismissed five enforcement officers over alleged involvement in extortion, harassment, double taxation, and other misconduct against commercial transport operators in the state.
The affected officers are Imo Okechukwu, Chibuzo Nwana (DPO), Anthony Anwuru (Timaya), Afamefuna Olinya, and Ebere Anike (Holy Water).
In a statement issued by the Head of Transport Department, Hon. Juventus Chukwunweike Okoli, AIRS said the officers were indicted following repeated complaints from transport operators and taxpayers.
According to the Service, the dismissal directive was conveyed in a letter signed by Dr. Ndubuisi Achebe, Executive Director of the Informal Sector Directorate, and copied to the Anambra State Commissioner of Police.
AIRS warned that the dismissed officers would face arrest and prosecution if found engaging in revenue collection or haulage enforcement activities after their dismissal.
The agency said the action reflects the state government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the protection of taxpayers from illegal levies and intimidation.
