Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has expressed concern over Nigeria’s worsening security situation, urging political leaders to prioritize the protection of citizens over political ambitions.
In a statement titled “Concerns About Deteriorating Security,” Obi lamented the continued captivity of schoolchildren abducted in separate incidents in Oyo and Borno states, two weeks after the attacks.
He also cited recent violent incidents across the country, including the killing of residents in parts of Plateau State, the abduction of more than 25 people in Kogi State, and the killing of two police officers in Anambra State.
According to Obi, the abduction of dozens of pupils, students, and teachers from schools in Oyo and Borno states highlights the urgent need for stronger security measures.
He criticized what he described as the growing focus of politicians on future elections while communities continue to suffer from attacks, kidnappings, and loss of lives.
“The safety and welfare of citizens must remain the foremost responsibility of government,” Obi said, calling for renewed commitment from leaders at all levels to address insecurity and protect lives and property.
